Los Angeles:Streaming service Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the third season of its fantasy epic "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power", which will premiere on November 11.
The streamer showcased the upcoming season during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H, where showrunners J D Payne and Patrick McKay were joined by cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman and newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower.
The teaser offers the first glimpse of Middle-earth plunged into all-out war as Sauron's quest to forge the One Ring gathers pace.
With the Dark Lord seeking to bring every kingdom under his control, the trailer hints at epic battles, uneasy alliances and the return of some of Tolkien's most fearsome creatures.
Based on the writings of J R R Tolkien, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is set thousands of years before the events of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings".
The series chronicles the major events of Middle-earth's Second Age, including the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of Sauron and the kingdoms and heroes that shaped Tolkien's fantasy world.
Prime Video also announced several additions to the ensemble cast.
Popular British actor Eddie Marsan will portray Thrain, the elder brother of King Durin IV, Andrew Richardson will play Anarion, Elendil's younger son and Isildur's brother, while Adam Young has been cast as the mysterious Orc Marnukh.
The streamer also revealed that "Stranger Things" star Jamie Campbell Bower would play Galadriel's long-lost husband Celeborn, while Zubin Varla joins the series as Khamul the Easterling.
One of the biggest surprises at the panel was the announcement that actor Simon Pegg will voice the Balrog, marking the first time the iconic creature will speak on screen.
Fans attending the event were also treated to an exclusive featurette showcasing creatures that will appear in the new season, including Fell-beasts, Mumakil and Orcs.
Set five years after the fall of Eregion, the third season finds Middle-earth on the brink of collapse as Sauron's armies sweep across the continent.
The first four episodes of the season will debut on November 11, followed by two episodes each on November 18 and November 25.
